On February 7, the Embassy of China in Finland successfully held the 2024 "Happy Chinese New Year" series of events including a reception, a theatrical performance, an intangible cultural heritage display, dragon dance performances, and photo exhibitions, in Tampere, putting the "Happy Chinese New Year" to the climax and a successful conclusion. H.E. Wang Tongqing, Chinese Ambassador to Finland, Kalervo Kummola, Mayor of Tampere, Matti Helimo, Deputy Mayor of Tampere, among other distinguished guests, attended the aforementioned events. Nearly 500 people, including representatives of Chinese enterprises, overseas Chinese and students in Tampere, and other Finnish friends were present.

In his speech, Ambassador Wang said that this year was the first time that "Happy Chinese New Year" came to Tampere, noting the city's fruitful engagements with China were the epitome of the friendship between China and Finland. He emphasized that China is willing to work with Finland to add more cultural elements to the bilateral friendship and cooperation to further enhance the understanding and friendship between the two peoples. On behalf of the Embassy, Ambassador Wang also wished overseas Chinese compatriots in Finland and the Finnish people a happy Chinese new year.

Mayor Kalervo Kummola conveyed New Year greetings to the Chinese people on behalf of the Tampere Municipal Government, noting Tampere has maintained friendly relations with China, enjoying solid cooperation foundation and fruitful achievements with China in education, business and other areas. He stressed that the growth of the Chinese community played an important role in the development and cultural shaping of Tampere city and had brought more vitality to Finland-China cooperation, and that cultural interactions with China is mutually beneficial and bears great significance.

Mr Chang Lin, Head of the Beijing Performing Troupe, extended his best wishes for the Year of the Dragon to the overseas Chinese in Finland on behalf of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.

2024 "Happy Chinese New Year" reached a successful conclusion in Tampere.
