Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen Expressed Condolence to the Victims of Sichuan Earthquakes

          May 19, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen came to the Chinese Embassy in Finland to express his condolence to the victims of earthquakes that hit Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province on May 12, 2008. Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen asked in detail about the disaster and relief work, watched the photos of earthquakes and relief work, and talked to a female diplomat at the Embassy who is from Sichuan Province. "On behalf of Finnish government, I express deep condolence to the victims of earthquakes and to the Chinese People", he wrote on the condolence book.

        The Finnish state leaders expressed their sympathy to Chinese People after the earthquakes. On May 13, Mrs. Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland sent condolence telegraph to H.E. Mr. Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China. On May 16, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland announced that the Finnish government would donate 500,000 euros to the earthquake disaster relief through the Finnish Red Cross. In last days, people from all walks of life in Finland have participated in donation for relief, many Finnish organizations and friends sent their condolence messages to the Chinese Embassy, and the major Finnish media reported the earthquakes and relief work news as they developed.
